Graduation Speech

Guys! I found the speech I gave at my high school graduation. Try to enjoy this...:
In the popular Disney movie Tangled, Princess Rapunzel goes out to follow her dream, of seeing the floating lanterns gleam. Along the way, she meets Flynn Rider who also has a dream. His dream is much more selfish, he wants an island all by himself surrounded by enormous piles of money. Throughout the movie, both try to follow their dream. Right before Rapunzel gets to experience the lanterns, they discuss dreams. That if it is everything that she hoped it would be, she will be able to find a new dream. That really is the glory of dreams, you can find a new one. Just as Flynn does in the end of the movie.
Like Flynn and Rapunzel, we all have dreams too. Throughout life and throughout high school especially, we have all had many dreams. Dreams of graduating high school, going to college, getting a job, making plans for the future, and maybe sometimes for that embarrassing and obvious zit to disappear. With new experiences, we can find new dreams, and set new goals. When we accomplish our goals, we can set a new dream that will help us in the future. Even if we don’t reach the goals and succeed in the way in which we had hoped, we can find a new goal. There will be times when we need to change our dreams, and that’s okay. If we never changed our dreams, we would all be trying to be ballerinas and astronauts who are going to be professional athletes, and none of us are. That’s okay, that’s good.
Through life we will all have the opportunity to reach our dreams, but we might not get there. Just because we have a dream doesn’t meant that we automatically receive it. If we don’t pursue of dreams, how will we ever be able to catch them? We won’t. If we want to clasp our dreams, if we really want them, we will have to stand up, and walk towards them, putting one foot in front of the other, and if necessary, we will have to run and fight for them. And if they are important enough, if they are true enough, and if they are honest and proper and honorable enough, we will be able to catch our dreams. This year, our boys’ basketball team had the opportunity to play at the State Championship. And after all was said and done, they came off victorious. But their victory was not easy, they had to work hard to receive that trophy, and that made the win much sweeter. Don’t set a goal like Flynn Rider did at first, don’t make stupid dreams that aren’t really what you need for the future. Make your dreams worthwhile, include the people that you love in it. Don’t start on the path towards your dream on your own.
So, as we start this new beginning in the “real world” let us go out and make some new dreams. In a few minutes we will be graduated, and with that comes new dreams. Let us continue with our old dreams and make some new ones as we start our futures. And remember that, just as C.S. Lewis said “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” I am so grateful to be graduating with this class, you guys are all amazing and I love you. We can all have beautiful futures, and we should continue to make new dreams. Thank you
